Split Red Lentil Curry - Masoor Daal Tadka



The next time you prepare daal, consider this daal recipe. There are many type of lentils available. However, India is lucky because there are many dal or daal which is not available else where. Dals can be prepares in similar way. However, the soaking and cooking time varies from type to type. So do check the packet for instructions. Preparing daal in ghee gives it a very rich taste. Generally people use simple oil,cumin seeds and green chilli tempering. However, when made in curry style, it can be served with roti only without making an additional curry.

Makes Daal for 4-5 people

What You Need:

1 cup masoor ki daal
2 cups water
9-10 garlic pods
2 whole green chilies
2 onions chopped
2 tomatoes chopped
1/2 tsp Kitchen King Masala
1/2 tsp kasuri methi
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp cumin powder
2 tbsp coriander leaves chopped for garnishing
2 tbsp oil
Salt to taste



Steps to Make :

Pressure cook daal in water for 10 minutes. Allow pressure to drop. Take out and keep aside.
Heat oil in a wok.
Add cumin seeds . Allow it to splutter.
Add Garlic, Onion and Green chilies. Cook till onion turns brown.
Add tomatoes , turmeric powder, red chili powder and cumin powder.
Cook till tomatoes leave oil.
Add kasuri methi, kitchen king masala and salt to taste.
Add the cooked daal, salt to taste and bring it to boil. Add more water depending on the consistency you want. If serving with roti, keep it thicker.
Add coriander leaves for garnishing.
Serve with roti and sabji.
